Deborah McKellar, born in 1981 in Johannesburg, South Africa completed her postgraduate studies in 2006 with a Master of Design, Majoring in Textiles at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Australia. Prior to this she obtained a BA (HONS) Fine Arts majoring in painting in 2005 at LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore.
Today she is a practicing textile artist and designer. Deborah's textile artworks are characterized by their bold colours, layers of stitching, remnants of fabric, silk screened images and printed patterns. She continues to be inspired by Singapore's exotic and bustling city life with its juxtaposition of old and new. Her artworks capture the city’s architectural heritage, everyday scenes, decorative elements, and the beauty seen in its multi-cultural diversity.
Deborah has exhibited in Singapore, Australia and South Africa. She is currently working as a part-time lecturer in Fashion Textiles at LASALLE College of the Arts.
