Christopher August Tamalar
Born in 1978, Lamine, Mon State, Christopher August Tamalar is an emerging artist from Myanmar. Tamalar received tutelage from U Than Kywe, U Win Tint, U Kyaw Thurain and U Aung Naing Maung, and graduated from State School of Fine Arts, Yangon.
Tamalar’s works are inspired by scenes of trees, often the only remnants that have survived the destruction of war in many areas of Myanmar. These trees that symbolise peace and hope for Myanmar’s future, are seen in most of his works. Layers of translucent paper create a structured feel in stark contrast to the undulating landscapes, representing the struggle between authority and nature.
Tamalar has had held a solo exhibition in Yangon, Myanmar in 2014, as well as participated in several group exhibitions in the region, including Art Revolution Taipei.
